The understanding of "women's empowerment" in right-wing politics in Türkiye and Europe

| dc.description.abstract | Bu tezde, Avrupa ve Türkiye’de sağ kanat siyasette kadınların muktedir kılınmasına yönelik anlayış incelenmiştir. Bu kapsamda, Avrupa’dan Marine Le Pen liderliğindeki Fransız Ulusal Birlik Partisi ile Türkiye’den Ümit Özdağ liderliğindeki Zafer Partisi seçilmiştir. Nitel araştırma yöntemleri ile yürütülen çalışmada, söz konusu partilerin kadınlara yönelik kavrayış ve politikaları; parti programları, lider söylemleri ve sosyal medya içerikleri üzerinden analiz edilmiştir. Çalışmada popülist radikal sağ partiler olarak değerlendirilen Ulusal Birlik ve Zafer Partisi’nin, göçmen karşıtlığı, sekülerlik vurgusu ve cumhuriyetçi değerlere olan bağlılıkları açısından benzeştiği saptanmıştır. Parti belgeleri ve lider söylemleri, toplumsal cinsiyet ve göçmen karşıtlığı başlıkları altında incelenmiş; bu sayede her iki partide tezahür eden “makbul kadın” figürü ortaya konmuştur. Bu figürün her iki partide de etnik, kültürel ve geleneksel değerler ile çizildiği gözlemlenmiştir. Yalnızca bu makbul kadın figürünün güçlendirilmeye tabi tutulduğu; partilerin yerlici ideolojiler doğrultusunda sınırlı ve koşullu bir güçlendirme anlayışı benimsediği tespit edilmiştir. Birtakım feminist değerleri benimsemelerine rağmen, her iki parti de kapsayıcılıktan uzak tutumlar sergileyerek feminizmin kesişimsellik ilkesiyle çelişmektedir. Elde edilen bulgular doğrultusunda bu çalışma, Avrupa ve Türkiye’deki popülist radikal sağ partilerin toplumsal göçmen karşıtlığı ile iç içe geçmiş toplumsal cinsiyet siyasetini ve kadınların muktedir kılınmasına yönelik anlayışlarını karşılaştırmalı olarak ele alarak literatüre özgün bir katkı sunmuştur. | |
| dc.description.abstract | This thesis examines the understanding of women’s empowerment in right-wing politics in Europe and Türkiye. In this context, the French Rassemblement National, led by Marine Le Pen, and Türkiye’s Zafer Partisi (Victory Party), led by Ümit Özdağ, were selected as case studies. Conducted through qualitative research methods, the study analyzes the selected parties’ perceptions and policies towards women by examining party programs, leader discourses, and social media content. It was determined that both Rassemblement National and Zafer Partisi, evaluated as populist radical right parties, resemble each other in terms of their anti-immigration stance, emphasis on secularism, and adherence to republican values. Party documents and leader rhetoric were analyzed under the themes of gender and anti-immigration, thereby revealing the figure of the “acceptable woman” as it manifests in both parties. This figure was observed to be shaped by ethnic, cultural, and traditional values in both parties. It was found that only this acceptable woman figure is subjected to empowerment, and that both parties adopt a limited and conditional understanding of empowerment shaped by nativist ideologies. Despite adopting certain feminist values, both parties display exclusionary attitudes and conflict with the intersectional principle of feminism. Based on the findings, this study offers an original contribution to the literature by comparatively analyzing the understanding of women’s empowerment of populist radical right parties in Europe and Türkiye, and their gender politics which is intertwined with anti-immigrant discourse. | |
