Öğe Karriere und bildungsabschlüsse von vorstandsmitgliedern in deutschland und in der Türkei(Türk-Alman Üniversitesi, 2019) Maciazka, Martin; Barmeyer, ChristophAs Evans et al. proved with their national career models, every country has its own recruiting patterns for top managers which are highly influenced historically, institutionally, organisationally and culturally. Current studies discuss if and how the economic globalization might lead to the emergence of an international recruiting model which will slowly replace the national career models. This thesis analyzes the career and education backgrounds of German and Turkish top managers and aims to contribute to the discussion about the nationality and internationality of top manager careers with two approaches. By collecting current data on the already well researched German model, this study aims to control its stability and to demonstrate to which extent international career and education aspects can be found in the CVs of German top executives. Turkish manager profiles however are scarcely researched: By establishing a Turkish national career model, this study intents to investigate to what extent distinctive national or international characteristics shape the careers of Turkish top managers. The purpose of this study is not the comparison of two national models but the verification of nationally distinctive recruiting patterns against the background of increasingly international manager profiles. Within the scope of this study, quantitative data has been collected on the career, education and sociodemographic backgrounds of the executive board members of each 30 stock companies listed in German DAX and Turkish BIST. The quantitative analysis follows the theoretical approach that elites gain legitimation by proving their merit through institutionalised selection patterns and that educational institutions in their role as filter institutions for human resources serve to identify and select High Potentials. The results prove the existence of nationally distinctive career and education backgrounds and legitimation patterns which are deeply rooted in the national education systems. International aspects have been found as well, especially in Germany, but to a significantly smaller extent than legitimation aspects following the national recruiting models.
