Öğe Broken Understanding: Corrupted Participation in Emerging Public Spaces(Springer Nature, 2024) Kurilla, RobinThis contribution develops a concept of reflexive intercultural mediation in orientation on obstacles to understanding in emerging public spaces as criteria to assess processes of social inclusion and exclusion. Among the discussed obstacles to understanding are the anatomy of political communication, the ascription of value-laden emotions to others and self, culture-specific emotion worlds and conflict models, the global spread of highly ritualized models of communication with their respective forms of capital or “media of success” such as popularity and authenticity, the crisis of public institutions, particularly of truth as opposed to the triumphant progress of highly sensitized subjectivities, and the economic dynamics tech companies are involved in. The concept of mediation across social and cultural differences that is developed here considers mediation as a reflexive practice and societal arrangements that aim at generating understanding and, in order to do so, lay open obstacles to understanding and highlight the underlying divides. © The Editor(s) (if applicable) and The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.Öğe Group identity fabrication theory - A communication-ecological account with social-theoretical implications(Palgrave Macmillan, 2023) Kurilla, Robin[Özet yok]Öğe Group identity fabrication theory: A communication-ecological account with social-theoretical implications(Springer Fachmedien Wiesbaden, 2023) Kurilla, RobinTo date, there has been no comprehensive and coherent approach to determining the communicative and precommunicative processes involved in the construction of group identities. The present study fills this gap by developing a unified theoretical foundation that can be used to capture empirical construction processes. Moreover, it contributes to the domain of group communication research. It creates a basic theoretical riverbed that provides a conceptual foundation for the conception of inter- and intra-group communication, which does not take its starting point from 'objective' categories, but from de facto socialization processes. In addition, the architecture of an innovative social theory is presented using the example of the construction of group identity, which satisfies the demands of epistemological interests in communication studies and possibly also in other disciplines. © The Editor(s) (if applicable) and The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Fachmedien Wiesbaden GmbH, part of Springer Nature 2023, corrected publication 2023.
