Öğe Internationale studierende in Deutschland und ihre karrierevorstellungen : eine mögliche zielgruppe für KMU in zeiten des fachkräftemangels ?(Türk-Alman Üniversitesi, 2018) Brandt, Corina; Maletzky, MartinaThe master thesis deals with the topic “Career Orientations of International University Students in Germany – a target group for small and medium-sized enterprises in times of shortage of skilled professionals?”. It is characterized by two main aspects. The first part focuses on the identification of career aspirations among international university students in Germany and if these career aspirations are culturally embedded. The second part concerns with measures derived from the results of the first part for small and medium-sized enterprises in Germany in times of the shortage of skilled professionals because of the demographic development in Germany. The assumption is that there is a lack of skilled professionals and that one of the measure against the shortages for enterprises is the recruitment of international professionals. Since international professionals are seen as a heterogeneous group, it seems interesting to put the focus on international students as a possible future workforce for the German labor market and therefore German enterprises. Therefore, in the second part follows a discussion of what measures can be derived from the insights of the first part and at the same time the core of the empirical research part for small and medium-sized enterprises. The discussion underlies the assumption of the so-called “shortage of skilled professionals in Germany”. For analyzing the career orientations of international university students in Germany, the career concepts of the boundaryless career and protean career shape the theoretical framework. An online questionnaire was conceptualized to explore the boundaryless career orientation and protean career orientation. The questionnaire contains questions concerning educational background and professional experiences, boundaryless career and protean career orientation, employee-employer relationship and opinions concerning their future employer. Concerning the question what career aspirations international university students in Germany have, the results show that the probands tend to show tendencies towards a boundaryless career orientation and protean career orientation. They seem to orientate independent from organizational boundaries, which reflects their aspirations concerning openness towards changing the employer, willingsness to change the geographical area for their job and independency towards acquiring knowledge, which can be applied in diverse organizations. Concerning the protean career orientation results have shown that the probands tend to think that they are responsible for their career development and not the company which is more likely for a traditional understanding of career. Concerning the question if career aspirations are culturally embedded, the data was not sufficient to show clear results. Even in the survey participated 200 international students; there was a huge variety of the countries of origin. The largest group by country of origin contained approximately 27% of the probands. The second largest country group had a share of 11% of all probands. Therefore it was hard to form adequate groups, e.g. by country of origin, and compare them and get insights concerning the cultural embeddedness of career orientations. Concerning the measures, it was identified that the students were open for different employers and the size of the company was secondary. Additionally, small and medium-sized enterprises are characterized by regionalism; the SME are mainly known regionally. In order to gain international absolvents it is important to create an awareness which target-orientation and cross the boundary of their regional awareness. This could be implemented by a appropriate and target group orientated marketing strategy.
