Strategic Energy Project Investment Decisions Using RoBERTa: A Framework for Efficient Infrastructure Evaluation

The task of identifying high-value projects from vast investment portfolios presents a major challenge in the construction industry, particularly within the energy sector, where decision-making carries high financial and operational stakes. This complexity is driven by both the volume and heterogeneity of project documentation, as well as the multidimensional criteria used to assess project value. Despite this, research gaps remain: large language models (LLMs) as pretrained transformer encoder models are underutilized in construction project selection, especially in domains where investment precision is paramount. Existing methodologies have largely focused on multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) frameworks, often neglecting the potential of LLMs to automate and enhance early-phase project evaluation. However, deploying LLMs for such tasks introduces high computational demands, particularly in privacy-sensitive, enterprise-level environments. This study investigates the application of the robustly optimized BERT model (RoBERTa) for identifying high-value energy infrastructure projects. Our dual objective is to (1) leverage RoBERTa’s pre-trained language architecture to extract key information from unstructured investment texts and (2) evaluate its effectiveness in enhancing project selection accuracy. We benchmark RoBERTa against several leading LLMs: BERT, DistilBERT (a distilled variant), ALBERT (a lightweight version), and XLNet (a generalized autoregressive model). All models achieved over 98% accuracy, validating their utility in this domain. RoBERTa outperformed its counterparts with an accuracy of 99.6%. DistilBERT was fastest (1025.17 s), while RoBERTa took 2060.29 s. XLNet was slowest at 4145.49 s. In conclusion, RoBERTa can be the preferred option when maximum accuracy is required, while DistilBERT can be a viable alternative under computational or resource constraints.
Sustainable Superhydrophobic Paper-Based Materials with Tunable Wettability via Olive Oil-Assisted Deposition

The increasing demand for sustainable water-repellent materials has intensified interest in environmentally benign alternatives to conventional polymer-coated paper for packaging applications. Superhydrophobic paper-based materials were fabricated from sustainable and earth-abundant precursors, olive oil (OO), fumed silica (N20), and sepiolite (SEP), with the aim of achieving durable superhydrophobicity using minimal material input via spray-coating and transesterification. This approach enables extreme water repellency on cellulose-based substrates while maintaining sustainability and a minimal coating thickness. The micrometer-thick coatings minimized material consumption and led to a gradual increase in the water contact angle, rising from 0° for pristine Whatman grade 1 filter paper (WFP) to 123.7 ± 1.4° (WFP/OO), 144.6 ± 2.8° (WFP/OO/N20), and 150.9 ± 2.6° (WFP/OO/SEP), ultimately reaching a superhydrophobic state of 159.6 ± 2.5° with a contact angle hysteresis of 4.0 ± 2.6° for the hybrid WFP/OO/SEP/N20 formulation. The resulting superhydrophobic surfaces exhibit an effective physical self-cleaning capability while preserving the breathability of the paper-based substrate. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) revealed the formation of hierarchical micro/nanoscale surface roughness, which is commonly associated with superhydrophobic behavior, while attenuated total reflectance Fourier-transform infrared (ATR-FTIR) spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) confirmed anchoring of the coating components onto the cellulose surface. In addition, a 10-fold increase in the wet tensile index was observed for the superhydrophobic paper compared to pristine WFP. These results demonstrate that the synergistic combination of olive oil and inorganic particles enables the fabrication of high-performance superhydrophobic paper without fluorinated compounds or synthetic polymers. Overall, integrating paper with inorganic particles and olive oil provides a scalable and sustainable alternative to conventional fossil-based polymer-coated paper composites for advanced packaging applications
Challenging Democratic Deficit at Work Through Humoristic Criticism: Perspectives from Turkey's Highly Qualified Employees

This article focuses on the lived experiences of highly-qualified employees facing contradictions in working life in contemporary Turkish society, engendered by the ambivalence between the managerial discourse, which promotes employees’ subjectivity, and de-democratization of society manifested specifically by the limitations of freedom of expression. The empirical research discussed in this article examines humoristic narratives shared by highly-qualified employees on social media, highlighting the contradictions they experience in corporate life. The study analyzed social media accounts that humorously critique working conditions, corporate culture, indebtedness, and co-worker relationships. It employs a qualitative approach, using content analysis to interpret the narratives and explore how humor is used to express negative working life experiences due to de-democratization of the society. The main findings of the study demonstrate that highly qualified employees, working in corporate companies, use humorous narratives to critique four key areas: psycho-social risks, corporate culture, co-worker relationships and indebtedness.

The rules of transport law are scattered. This situation causes the use of different terms to express the same type of harm to the goods. Un- like the different terms used in the legislation, the terms “loss” and “damage” are commonly used in the doctrine and judicial decisions to express any harm to the goods, but these terms do not have a general definition accepted in terms of all transportation law. Differing definiti- ons of the terms “loss” and “damage” and the lack of a consensus on the scope of these terms cause problems when the legal characterization of the damage occurred in a particular case. In addition, the legally cor- rect characterization of the damage in a particular case plays an impor- tant role regarding the burden of notification by the consignee, and the calculation of damage and burden of proof. In this study, In this study, a definition attempt has been made for the concepts of loss and damage, which can be valid in terms of transportation law in general. In addition, the effect of loss and damage on the calculation of damages, the burden of proof and the burden of notification by the consignee has been examined.
Franchise sözleşmesi

Bu yüksek lisans tezinde, franchise sözleşmesi Türk hukuku çerçevesinde
incelenmiştir. Çalışmanın ilk bölümünde franchise kavramı, tarihsel gelişimi,
sözleşmenin tanımı ve türleri ele alınmış; franchise sisteminin taraflara sağladığı
avantajlar ve dezavantajlar değerlendirilmiştir. İkinci bölümde ise franchise
sözleşmesinin esaslı unsurları ortaya konulmuş, benzer sözleşmelerle karşılaştırılması
yapılarak hukuki niteliği ve şekil şartları üzerinde durulmuştur.
Üçüncü bölümde tarafların borçları detaylandırılmış olup franchise verenin
aydınlatma ve destek yükümlülükleri ile franchise alanın ücret ödeme, sadakat ve
rekabet etmeme gibi temel borçları açıklanmıştır. Son bölümde franchise
sözleşmesinin sona erme halleri ile sona ermenin taraflar açısından doğurduğu
sonuçlar değerlendirilmiştir. Çalışmada, öğretideki görüşler ve uygulamaya yansıyan
bazı durumlar dikkate alınarak, franchise sözleşmesinin Türk hukukundaki yeri genel
hatlarıyla ortaya konulmuştur.
